Expanding the Coalition

As Minnesota's leaders work to implement new energy polices, they need to know the reliability and affordability impacts of environmental and economic goals. Partners for Affordable Energy is expanding its coalition in an effort to engage citizens and leaders across Minnesota in reaching out to decision-makers and advocating for affordable and reliable electricity. Our coalition members will encourage the continued use of existing energy sources while investing in new technologies so we can achieve the economic and environmental goals Minnesotans expect.

Coalition partners support the following shared energy and environmental principles:

Minnesota's Energy Challenge

  • Quality of Life. Low-cost, reliable sources of energy have historically made Minnesota an attractive place to live and work, as have our abundant natural resources and clean environment. Preserving respect for environment with support for our industries will be important to the future well-being of the state.

  • Competitiveness of State Industries. For critical sectors of Minnesota's economy - agribusiness, mining, forestry products, high-technology, and retail services - increasing energy costs and decreasing reliability will threaten their ability to compete in the 21st Century.

  • Fairness for All. Increasing energy costs disproportionately affect people on fixed incomes, working families and local governments that must absorb higher costs within tight budgets.
Future Energy Policy for Minnesota

  • Achieve Economic and Environmental Goals. As state leaders plan our energy policy for future generations, they should strive for economic viability and environmental responsibility to achieve the best energy policy.

  • Make Efficient Investments. State energy policy should encourage continued use of the investments customers have made in existing energy resources and infrastructure while also investing in new technologies needed to achieve our economic and environmental goals.

  • Accept Individual Responsibility. Minnesotans recognize that each of us has the ability and the responsibility to reduce our individual contributions of greenhouse gases, rather than expect government to assign those responsibilities.
Become a Coalition Partner - If you want to make your voice heard on these issues and your organization shares these principles, sign up as a member of the coalition. By joining, you can help encourage energy solutions that strike the right economic and environmental balance for Minnesota.
